About Wordle

Wordle is a calm word puzzle. There is a hidden five-letter word, and you have 6 tries to find it. After each guess, the letters change color to show how close you are.

There is one new word every day, and everyone gets the same word. It is a pleasant way to start the morning, and something nice to talk about with family and friends.

The letters are large and the keyboard is easy to tap. On a computer, you can also type with your own keyboard.

How to play

  1. Guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries.
  2. Green means the letter is in the right spot. Yellow means it is in the word but in another spot. Grey means it is not in the word.
  3. Words that are not in our word list do not use up a guess.
  4. Prefer other colors? Turn on color-blind friendly colors in Profile.

Tips

  • Start with a word that uses common letters, such as two vowels and letters like R, S, T or L.
  • Watch the keyboard. It colors the letters you have tried, so you can see which ones are left.
  • A letter can appear more than once in the word. If you are stuck, try a double letter.
  • There is no clock. Take your time, and think before each guess.

Questions about Wordle

What do the colors mean?

Green means the letter is in the right spot. Yellow means it is in the word, but in another spot. Grey means it is not in the word. You can turn on color-blind friendly colors in Profile.

What happens if I use all 6 guesses?

The game ends and shows you the word. A finished game still counts toward your streak, and a new word is ready tomorrow.

Why did my guess not count?

If a word is not in our word list, we tell you, and it does not use up a guess. Try another word.

How are points counted?

You earn the most points when you find the word in fewer guesses. Each extra guess lowers your score a little. To appear on the leaderboard, sign in and choose a display name.
