Strands
Find the hidden theme words in the letter grid.
About Strands
Strands is a word hunt with a theme. You get a grid of letters and a short clue about today’s theme. Hidden in the grid are words that fit that theme.
To spell a word, tap letters that touch each other: up, down, across or on a diagonal. Words can twist and turn. One special word, the spangram, stretches from one side of the grid to the other.
There is a new puzzle every day, the same for everyone. There is no limit on guesses, so you can keep trying at your own pace.
How to play
- The letters hide words that share today’s theme.
- Tap letters that touch, in any direction, to spell a word. Tap the last letter again to undo it.
- One special word, the spangram, stretches from one side of the grid to the other.
- Stuck? A hint outlines the letters of one word, but lowers your score.
Tips
- Read the theme clue first, then think of words that might fit it. Theme words have at least 4 letters.
- Look for the spangram early. It runs all the way across the grid, or from top to bottom, so finding it opens up the rest.
- Tapped the wrong letter? Tap the last letter again to undo it, or tap Clear to start the word over.
- Letters in a word you have found cannot be used again, so the grid gets easier as you go.
Questions about Strands
Can I get a hint?
Yes. Tap Hint and we outline the letters of one theme word. Then work out the order that spells it. Each hint lowers your score a little.
What is the spangram?
It is one special theme word that stretches from one side of the grid to the other, either across or from top to bottom. When you find it, its letters are marked with a star.
Do wrong guesses count against me?
No. If a word is not a theme word, we tell you, and you can try again. Only hints lower your score.
What if I cannot find the last words?
Once you find the outlined word, you can ask for another hint, until every theme word is found. You always earn points when you finish.
