About Connections

Connections is a word puzzle about finding what words have in common. You see 16 words, and your job is to sort them into 4 groups of 4.

A group might be kinds of fruit, words that go with “house”, or something more clever. Some words seem to fit more than one group, and that is part of the fun.

There is one new puzzle each day, the same for everyone. The groups go from easy, shown in yellow, to tricky, shown in purple.

How to play

  1. Find four groups of four words that have something in common.
  2. Tap four words, then tap Submit.
  3. You can make 4 mistakes. If three of your four words belong together, we tell you that you are one away.
  4. Groups go from easy (yellow) to tricky (purple).

Tips

  • If a word could fit more than one group, leave it for later. Solve the clearer groups first.
  • Tap Shuffle to mix up the words. Seeing them in a new order can help you spot a group.
  • Think beyond the first meaning. A word can have two meanings, or be part of a longer phrase.
  • When you see “One away”, three of your four words belong together. Swap just one word and try again.

Questions about Connections

How many mistakes can I make?

You can make 4 mistakes. If you try the same four words twice, we tell you, and it does not count as another mistake.

What does “One away” mean?

It means three of the four words you picked belong to the same group, and only one is wrong. It still counts as a mistake.

What happens if I run out of mistakes?

The game ends and shows you all four groups, so you can see the answers. You still earn points for each group you found.

What do the colors mean?

Each group’s color shows how hard it is. Yellow is the easiest group and purple is the trickiest.
