About Memory Match

Memory Match is the classic card game, sometimes called Pairs or Concentration. There are 16 cards face down, and each picture is on exactly two of them.

Turn over two cards at a time. If the pictures match, the pair stays open. If they do not, both cards turn back over, and you try to remember where each picture was.

Every day brings a new set of 8 pictures in a new order, the same for everyone. Each pair has its own color too, so the pictures are easy to tell apart.

How to play

  1. Two cards at a time.
  2. Matching cards stay open.
  3. Cards that do not match turn back over.
  4. Fewer turns means a higher score.

Tips

  • Start by turning over cards you have not seen yet. Every new card tells you something.
  • Say each picture quietly to yourself as you see it, for example “umbrella, top left”.
  • When you turn over a picture you have seen before, go straight to its twin.
  • There is no clock. Take your time between turns.

Questions about Memory Match

How are points counted?

Finding all 8 pairs in 8 turns earns the most points. Each extra turn lowers your score a little, and every finished game earns some points. To appear on the leaderboard, sign in and choose a display name.

What happens when two cards do not match?

Both cards stay open for a moment so you can see them, then they turn back over. Tap any card to carry on straight away.

Can I lose?

No. The game ends when you have found every pair, however many turns it takes.

Can I play with a keyboard or a screen reader?

Yes. Each card is a button that says its number and, once it is turned over, its picture. After the second card of a turn, we say whether the two pictures match.
